Action in Acton (Long)

Distance: 51 miles and 3700 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

All three routes today stay together for the first 7 miles and all come back together for the last 10 miles. They all start by taking Sierra Hwy over to Soledad Canyon Road and begin heading east. The short soon turns off, but the long and medium continue to Agua Dulce where the medium splits off. This long continues all the way to Acton where you can stop for an early lunch. The return takes us up and over Escondido Summit (the central peak on the profile) and down through Agua Dulce (where the medium route rejoins) and past Vasquez Rocks to a later lunch on Sierra Hwy.  A short, but somewhat steep, climb over Sand Canyon takes us to Placerita Canyon for a pleasant 5 mile ride along that road before a short hop on Sierra Hwy takes us back to the start. The bulk of the climbing is along Soledad Canyon and on Escondido Cyn Rd., but as you can see by the profile, this is a long very gradual uphill. The only really steep climb of the day is the short climb on Sand Canyon at about mile 40.
