Reseda Park – Phase II (Medium)

Distance: 54 miles and 2200 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Both the long and the medium are somewhat similar. They start out together as they head 7 miles west to Valley Circle. On Valley Circle, the long splits off to take Box Canyon while this medium continues around Valley Circle to pick up Santa Susana Pass from Topanga Cyn Blvd.  On Santa Susana Pass, the long rejoins the medium and together they ride down into Simi Valley. They stay together as they cross Simi Valley, but then the long splits off to go to Moorpark for lunch. This medium stays in Simi Valley for lunch. After lunch, the long rejoins the medium route and they stay together back to the start. The route back goes over Santa Susana Pass and then zigzags across the San Fernando Valley back to the start. As you can see by the profile below, the two trips over Santa Susana are the only major climbs of the day. By skipping Box Canyon, this medium has a somewhat easier time going over Santa Susana the first time. However, total elevation gain for the two routes is almost the same. The bigger difference is the mileage.
