Distance: 63 miles and 7600 feet of elevation gain (barometric)
This long and the medium routes are the same to lunch. They start by heading up the coast to Latigo Cyn and climbing the twin peaks of that canyon. They then work their way west (doing a bit more climbing along the way) to the big downhill on Mulholland Hwy which takes you back down to the coast and a short hop over to Neptune’s Net for lunch. After lunch, the two routes split. This long climbs Yerba Buena up and over to where it rejoins Mulholland Hwy (the 2nd big climb on the profile). It then jogs over to Encinal Cyn and takes this back down to the coast. At this point, it rejoins the medium route for the return along the coast to the start. This return stays off PCH as much as possible by riding roads parallel to PCH. This involves a little more climbing than staying on PCH including a short but steep climb which goes around Zuma hill. This is a very hilly route with an average of more than 100 feet of elevation gain per mile. On the map, the blue is the common route between the long and medium and the red indicates the extra loop ridden by this long up Yerba Buena and back down Encinal.
