Alhambra – Burbank Caper (Short)

Distance: 31 miles and 1500 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)

All three routes today are mostly the same. All three stay together for at least the first 14 miles. They all come back together for lunch and they have the same 9 mile return after lunch. It is only in the middle that they vary. All three start by heading to Burbank via South Pasadena, Pasadena, Eagle Rock and Glendale and finally traveling into Burbank along the well known Kenneth Road. While the long and medium continue well out into Burbank, this short turns off on Sonora to head directly over to Griffith Park where it rejoins the medium route. While the long climbs through the park, this short (with the medium route) travels around the park along Crystal Springs Drive. On the far side of the park, the routes all come back together to have lunch not far from Atwater Village. They then travel back to the start by a fairly direct route. As you can see by the profile, there are a few hills, but no major climbs on this route. On the map below, the blue indicates the common route with the medium route and the pink indicates where this short cuts the medium route short.
