Distance: 55 miles and 1600 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)
We start along with the metric century riders in Ventura from a parking lot a few blocks from the bike path which the full century riders will be using. You may wish to wait for the full century riders and ride with them. From Ventura, the route pretty much hugs the coast all the way to Santa Barbara. From the start all the way to Carpinteria we ride 18 miles entirely on either bike paths or the low traffic Rincon Parkway. Once in Santa Barbara, this half century skips the trip up to the whale and goes directly to lunch at the Habit Burger where it rejoins the metric route. The return trip is mostly the reverse of the trip out, but we do vary the route a little going through Carpinteria. On the profile you will see there are only 4 small peaks. The first and last are at Hwy 150 and Bates Road (going and coming). The second and third are Ortega Hill in Summerland (coming and going). Note that the highest of these is only about 200 feet above sea level.
