Distance: 92 miles and 3700 feet of elevation gain (barometric)
We start in La Crescenta and head southeast into Pasadena and South Pasadena (passing the Rose Bowl where they may be working on Rose Parade floats). Then we turn east through the San Gabriel Valley all the way out to Upland. The trip out rides long stretches on Arrow Hwy and Bonita Ave. In Upland we turn north and ride a long grade up to lunch near the 210 Freeway. After lunch we turn back west for our return. The return parallels the trip out, but along a slightly more northerly route which generally follows or rides on Foothill Blvd. The total elevation gain is not high for a century. As you can see by the profile, we start with a general down-grade until we reach the San Gabriel River. Then the route is a gentle up-grade to lunch (and a little beyond). The final 2 – 3 miles up to lunch (at mile 45) is a noticeable climb, but not too steep. There are a few other short hills on the return, but nothing to worry about.
