Arcadia – La Tuna Canyon (Short)

Distance: 35 miles and 1400 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)

The Short and the Medium routes are substantially the same today except that the medium route includes the loop though Montrose and down La Tuna before rejoining this short in Eagle Rock. The common beginning starts by heading west to Pasadena and the Rose Bowl. It continues to Chevy Chase where the Medium splits off to head to Montrose. This Short takes Chevy Chase down to Eagle Rock. Here it rejoins the Medium route along Glenoaks Blvd. The routes continue together through Occidental College and South Pasadena, but this short makes a short detour to stop for lunch along Fair Oaks Blvd. After lunch it once again rejoins the other routes through San Marino and back to the start. As you can see, this short does have a climb to the high point on Chevy Chase, but this point is not as high as the top of La Tuna and the approach to the top is fairly gradual. On the map below, the blue indicates the portions of the route that are in common with the medium route and the pink indicates the unique portion of the short route.
