East Road, West Road – All Around Downtown Full Century

Distance: 96 miles and 2500 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

This clockwise loop starts by heading directly to downtown for a ride through the heart of the city in the early morning hours. We then do a gentle climb up to the Alhambra area (the first peak at 17 miles on the profile below). We then proceed east to West Covina and south to Walnut. Then we hit the main climbing of the day as we first go up Brea Canyon Cut Off (the highest spike below), and then follow that up almost immediately with a climb up Fullerton Road (the 2nd spike). This is followed by some rolling hills on East Road and West Road, ending at lunch in Whittier. As you can see below, the remainder of the return route is fairly flat with a stretch on the San Gabriel River and on Del Amo Blvd (flat). None of the climbs today are very long or very steep, so it should be a fairly easy century.
