Thanksgiving Day Rides (Long)

Distance: 39 miles and 1100 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Today the long and the medium routes are somewhat similar, but use different streets much of the time. They both first go to the Overlook in Pacific Palisades to take in the view and then they both head down to the Marina for a break and then both head back to the start. But, for reasons that aren’t always clear, they do these 3 things by slightly different routes.  So, don’t make a mistake and follow the wrong riders.

This long actually takes a slightly shorter route to the Palisades, but slightly more hilly, than the medium route. The trip down to the Marina for the long is on surface streets while the medium takes the beach bike path. This long also does an extra loop in the Marina past the nautically named streets in alphabetical order. After the Marina, this long takes a similar, but slightly longer route back to the start. So take your pick – total distance and elevation gains are about the same – just two different ways of doing the same thing. As you can see by the profile, there are a few climbs, but these never get much above 300 feet above sea level.
