Distance: 40 miles and 1100 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)
Today, the short route stays with the long and medium routes for the first 24 miles. From the start, they all ride directly over to the San Gabriel River trail and ride the 8 miles up the river to the Santa Fe Dam. After riding the crest of the dam (almost another 3 miles) the routes continue north along the river to Duarte. Here the short splits off from the other two routes and makes its way back to the start by a slightly more direct route than the long and medium (skipping the trip through Sierra Madre and Pasadena). On the map, the blue portion is the common route with the medium route (and long) and the pink portion is the unique return route of this short route. By not going through Sierra Madre and Pasadena, this short cuts out a little of the climbing done by the medium, but otherwise their profiles are about the same.
