Distance: 37 miles and 800 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)
This short gets down to Newport and Balboa Island to join the long and medium riders, but does so by a more direct (and less hilly) route. This route takes you around the south side of the Back Bay. Once in Balboa and off the ferry, this short route joins the medium route for lunch and its direct return across Irvine back to the start. This return takes you along the northern edge of the Back Bay. On the map, the pink indicates the unique route of this short down to Newport and the blue indicates the joint route with the medium riders on the return.
