Malibu Vistas (Short)

Distance: 41 miles and 2200 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Like the long and medium routes, this short heads north up the coast to lunch and returns. This year the route has been extended to take riders all the way to Neptune’s Net for lunch where you can join the long and medium riders when they get there. While the long and medium make one or two big climbs up to Mulholland Hwy and back down (over 2000 feet per climb), this short stays closer to the coast. The route is basically the same out and back. It attempts to stay off PCH as much as possible. This involves taking a number of roads which run parallel to PCH, but which also entail a bit more climbing than simply staying on PCH. The return back from lunch is the same as the medium route return. The profile below looks very hilly, but note that most of the climbing is below 200 feet above sea level. Although much of this climbing is steeper than simply staying on PCH, the total gain is not much more than if you simply rode PCH.
