Two Terrible Tujungas Tour (Extended)

Distance: 91 miles and 7900 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

The two options are the same for the first 56 miles. We start the day right off with the climb up Little Tujunga. This is a long climb with two peaks (the two peaks at 8 and 12 miles on the profile below). Then it is down Sand Canyon to Soledad Canyon. We follow Soledad for 15 miles to lunch in Acton. This stretch is a long gentle climb. After lunch, we hit the big climb of the day. We head up Aliso Canyon (7 miles, but only the last mile or two are really tough) and then continue climbing on Angeles Forest Hwy up to Mill Creek Summit (the high point on the profile below). Then it is a long downhill before a brief climb back up to where Big Tujunga Canyon turns off. Here the two options split. This Extended Route continues Angeles Forest Hwy up to where it joins Angeles Crest Hwy. The route then takes Angeles Crest all the way down to La Canada. You continue downhill on Chevy Chase to Glendale where you pick up Glenoaks Blvd which you take northwest all the way back to the start.  On the map below, the red indicates the common portion between the two options and the blue shows where this Extended Route varies.
