Distance: 74 miles and 5300 feet of elevation gain (barometric)
This route is like a mini version of the old Grand Tour in that it starts with a relatively flat stretch followed by some climbing and then ending with another flat run back to the start. We start by riding south through the beach communities down to Palos Verdes. Once there, we basically make one lap around the peninsula, but in the course of doing that, we climb to the top three times. You can easily see the three climbs on the profile below. Lunch is after completing the final climb. The trip back to the start uses a slightly different route from the trip down, but still runs close to the coast. As you can see by the profile, each of the three climbs tops out near 1000 feet above sea level, so none of them are extremely long. The last climb up Hawthorne Blvd is probably the steepest, but also the shortest.
