South Bay Ramble (Long)

Distance: 55 miles and 2800 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

All three routes start out together as they head through El Segundo to Manhattan Beach. At this point the short splits off, but the long and medium continue together to Redondo. At that point, this long splits off and heads inland to make a loop around Palos Verdes on the inland side. The route crosses back to the coast along Western Ave. The route then takes Palos Verdes Drive around to the north side of the peninsula stopping for lunch at Golden Cove. After a loop around the golf course, it heads back through Torrance and the beach communities back to the start. There is a lunch stop on the route, but save room for frozen yogurt near the end of the ride. There are two high points on the route shown on the profile below. The first is along Western Ave and the second one is the loop around the golf course. Neither gets above 500 feet above sea level. On the map below, the blue portion is the common start and finish of the long and medium routes and the red indicates the loop around the peninsula made by the long route.
