La Tuna Melt (Medium)

Distance: 41 miles and 2200 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Today the long and medium split after only a couple of miles. This medium heads east to Eagle Rock and then climbs up Chevy Chase (the first peak on the profile below). This is a shorter climb and it doesn’t go quite as high as the La Tuna climb ridden by the long riders. The two routes come back together at the top of Chevy Chase. Together they head over to Altadena and the climb up “Christmas Tree Lane” (the 2nd peak on the profile below). After that, it is downhill to lunch in Pasadena and mostly downhill after lunch back to the start. The last few miles are a pleasant ride through Griffith Park. The climb up Chevy Chase is not too steep but the climb up Christmas Tree Lane is somewhat steeper, but not very long. It is also shaded by the trees. Unfortunately, the Christmas lights will not be on.
