Straight Cow Mountain (Medium)

Distance: 47 miles and 1900 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Today the long and medium routes are much the same except that the long adds an extra loop in the middle. Both start out by heading east to Baldwin Park. At about the 12 mile mark the two routes split. While the long makes a loop to the east, this medium heads south through West Covina, Industry and down to Hacienda Heights. Here the long rejoins the medium route. Both routes then do the climb over Turnbull and down into Whittier for lunch. After lunch, it is a relatively easy 15 miles back to the start. As you can see by the profile, the climb over Turnbull is the only major climb of the day. It is about 600 feet of gain over 3 miles, which really isn’t all that steep.
