Hollywood Sign Ride (Medium)

Distance: 20 miles and 1700 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)

Although this route is only 20 miles (shorter than many “short” routes), due to the difficulty, we have labeled it as a “Medium” Route. Both routes stay together for the first 10 miles up to the sign. This is a fairly direct route east through Hollywood and then north up into the Hollywood Hills and up to the sign. Portions of this are very steep, but on low traffic residential streets. The last 1.4 miles up to the sign are on a closed (but poorly maintained) road.  After viewing the sign, the routes start back down the way they came up. Back down in Hollywood, the routes split. This Medium simply heads directly back to the start. The route back is slightly different than the route up, but the differences are minor.  Note: due to the shortness of this route, there is no lunch stop specified on the route.  As you can see on the profile, the climb up to the sign is the only significant climb of the day.
