Bronson Caves (Long)

Distance: 40 miles and 3200 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

All three routes go to the caves. While the short goes directly there and back, the long and the medium add on a few extra places to see. This long starts off with one of these extras as it takes you up to Mulholland (the 1st big climb on the profile below) and along the iconic ridge between the basin and the San Fernando Valley. It then comes down at Cahuenga and takes in the 2nd extra sight. This is Lake Hollywood. There is a short but steep climb to get to the lake and after completely circling the lake, there is another short but very steep climb back out (the peak at mile 22 on the profile below). After the lake, it’s on to the caves. After viewing the caves, we ride over to Griffith Park and  take in our last extra sight. This is the ride up to the Observatory and lunch at the “Café at the End of the Universe.”. After lunch, it is a quick ride back down into Hollywood and a direct return to the start. For a short ride, this long has a lot of climbing including the two steep climbs near Lake Hollywood.
