Long Beach Bike Path (Long)

Distance: 53 miles and 800 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Although all routes today ride the Long Beach Bike Path, this long is almost completely different from the other two routes. In fact, it rides the beach bike path in the opposite direction from the other two routes. The long starts by heading north on the San Gabriel River Trail and rides this all the way to Whittier Narrows. Here it jogs over to the Rio Hondo trail and rides this back south. The Rio Hondo runs into the LA River Trail and we continue this all the way to the coast in Long Beach. Here we ride the beach bike path south (east actually) along the beach down to Seal Beach. We stop for lunch either in Long Beach or Seal Beach. After lunch, it is a short hop back up the San Gabriel River trail and back to the start. The route is almost entirely on bike paths which make for a pleasant day of riding. Also there are no hills to speak of. Just the long up-grade as we go up the river. There is a small spike as we go up and over the Whittier Narrows Dam at about mile 20.
