Distance: 64 miles and 1900 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)
We start with a trip south to Palos Verdes, mostly on the beach bike path, which should be fairly clear this early in the morning. In Palos Verdes we make a loop around the western side of the peninsula, doing a little climbing along the way (although this metric century cuts off some of the climbing done by the full century). Then it’s down to San Pedro where we take an interesting (if not scenic) route through the harbor area to the LA River. Here the metric route splits from the full Century. This metric heads inland on the LA River over to Willow where it rejoins the return by the full century. The return is the same as the full century except that this metric century cuts off the trip up Signal Hill and also the final small climb near the end of the ride. On the profile below, you can see that most of the climbing is in the early trip through Palos Verdes. However, you never get above 400 feet above sea level, so it is not a mountainous day.
