Corner Caper – Phase I (Medium)

Distance: 50 miles and 2500 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Both the long and medium head over to the valley and return. The beginning and end of each route is pretty much the same, but the middle portion differs. Both start by heading up to Mulholland on Benedict Canyon. At the top, this medium splits off and descends into the Valley on Coldwater Canyon. It then makes a small counter-clockwise circle around the west Valley going as far west as Northridge. The circle is smaller than that done by the long. After completing this circle, it heads back over Sepulveda (with the long route) and back to the start. As you can see on the profile below, the two peaks are the trips over and back. The total climbing on this medium is essentially the same as the long except that it doesn’t go quite as high on the north side of the Valley.
