Arcadia – La Tuna Canyon (Medium)

Distance: 52 miles and 2300 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

The Long and the Medium routes are substantially the same today except that the Long route adds a loop at the beginning. This medium skips that loop (and a climb) and starts by heading west to Pasadena and the Rose Bowl. You then proceed up to La Canada (where you join the long route) and continue on to Montrose. From Montrose, both routes climb to the top of La Tuna (the  peak on the profile) and cruise the 4 mile downhill. A few more miles of riding parallel to Glenoaks Blvd takes you to lunch. After lunch, you continue east along Glenoaks through Eagle Rock, Occidental College, South Pasadena and back to the start. As you can see, this medium has only one major peak (as opposed to two on the long route). On the map below the blue indicates the separate beginning of the medium route and the red indicates the common portion with the long route.
