Distance: 64 miles and 2900 feet of elevation gain (barometric) (2300 feet without hill)
This route is identical to the long Pendleton Option except that for those who do not have a permit to travel through Camp Pendleton, it utilizes the shoulder of the I-5 through the area in both directions. Riding the freeway shoulder is permitted. You will have to exit the freeway to travel through a rest area and then return to the freeway in both directions. This option is more direct and therefore a bit shorter than the Pendleton Option. It may also have a little bit less climbing. Except for the bypass of Camp Pendleton, this option is the same as the other long route. See the description of that route above.
