Reseda Park – Phase I (Long)

Distance: 83 miles and 4900 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

The long and medium are somewhat similar today, but don’t really ride together much at all. They both go out to the Santa Clarita Valley for lunch, both return back over the Old Road and both do an optional climb up Kagel Canyon, but that’s where the similarity ends. This long heads out to Santa Clarita via a trip through Little Tujunga Canyon with its twin peaks (first two peaks on the profile) and down Sand Canyon. This is a fairly long climb. After lunch it is back to the San Fernando Valley via the Old Road (the small peak in the middle of the profile) and then there is the optional Kagel Canyon Climb. This long actually goes up Lopez Canyon and comes down Kagel (the final peak on the profile). After that, it is a flat but not quite direct route across the Valley and back to the start.  The route sheet provides an option to make a short return (skipping Kagel and some of the extra Valley miles. This cuts the total miles down to as little as 58 miles. The option is not shown on the map.
