Honolulu For Lunch (Medium)

Distance: 48 miles and 1800 feet of elevation gain (barometric)

Today the long and the medium routes stay together for the first 31 miles as they take a somewhat circuitous route to Montrose. They start by heading over to the Rio Hondo bike trail and take that northeast. They then head back west to the Rose Bowl area and then up Descanso to Montrose. Here the two routes split. While the long continues on over La Tuna Canyon, this medium stops for lunch in Montrose. After lunch, the medium returns back the way it came, going down Descanso and back around the Rose Bowl. It then proceeds by a fairly direct route back to the start. The high point on the profile below is the top of Descanso (which the route passes through twice). As you can see, the route is essentially one long up-grade to lunch and then mostly downhill back to the start.
