Distance: 64 miles and 2000 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)
We start in Ventura from a parking lot a few blocks from the bike path which the full century riders will be using. You may wish to wait for the full century riders and ride with them. The entire route of the metric century is the center portion of the full century so you would be riding with the full century riders all day. From Ventura, the route pretty much hugs the coast all the way to Santa Barbara. From the start all the way to Carpinteria we ride 18 miles entirely on either bike paths or the low traffic Rincon Parkway. Once in Santa Barbara we make a loop up to the Natural History Museum to view the whale and then come back down. You can stop for lunch either before or after this loop. The return trip is mostly the reverse of the trip out, but we do vary the route a little going through Carpinteria. On the profile you will see there are only 5 small peaks. The first and last are at Hwy 150 and Bates Road (going and coming). The second and fourth are Ortega Hill in Summerland (coming and going). The center climb is the loop in Santa Barbara going up to see the whale. Note that the highest of these is only about 300 feet above sea level.
