GRAND TOUR 2008
Double Metric Century Double Century Triple Century Quadruple Century
125 miles 200 miles 300 miles 400 miles
It was way back in 1959 that a handful of Los Angeles Wheelmen bet each other that they could ride 200 miles in a day, and maybe a little of the night. They made it, and the Grand Tour has been ridden ever since, the pioneer of all Double Centuries, with a few more options added along the way.
Join us on Saturday, June 28, 2008, for our 50th Anniversary!
MALIBU TO POINTS NORTH: GRAND TOUR 2008 is a classic bicycle ride offering the best of everything in scenic Southern California: beaches, valleys, mountains, luxury homes, orange groves, ranches, and farms.
DOUBLE METRIC CENTURY CHALLENGE: This shortened version of our famous Double Century cuts distance to 125 miles, but keeps the best scenery in a hilly, very challenging ride. Latigo Cyn., Westlake, Lake Sherwood, Moorpark for lunch, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Pacific Coast Hwy. back to Malibu.
LOWLAND DOUBLE: An ideal First Timer's Double, with fewer hills but more urban riding. Oxnard, Moorpark, Ventura, to Ojai for lunch. Return to Malibu via Carpinteria, Port Hueneme, PCH.
HIGHLAND DOUBLE: A hillier route into and out of the Ojai lunch, but more scenery, lower traffic, and sometimes more favorable winds between Ojai and Carpinteria, as you circle Lake Casitas.
TRIPLE: A fully-supported triple century. Follow Lowland or Highland double route, continue north from Carpinteria through Santa Barbara to turn around at Gaviota. Then it’s straight down the coast.
QUADRUPLE: The ultimate 24-hour challenge for ultra-distance cyclists! After finishing a Lowland or Highland Triple in Malibu, put that extra energy into a final 100-mile loop to Ventura and back.
START/CHECK-IN/FINISH LOCATION: Malibu Performing Arts Center, 23825 Stuart Ranch Rd., Malibu 90265. From Pacific Coast Hwy. at Malibu Civic Center (between Malibu Cyn. and the Malibu Pier), go inland on Webb Way, straight ahead into Stuart Ranch Rd., to the last lot at the top of the hill.
