Mount Wilson – Newcomb’s Ranch (Extended)

Distance 73 miles and 8200 feet of elevation gain (mapping software)

We offer two extended longs. This one makes a trip up to Newcomb’s Ranch. (Both extended routes are on the same route sheet)  Both extended longs stay with the regular long all the way to Wilson and they start back down together. But when you get back down to Red Box, both extended longs split off by turning right and continuing up Angeles Crest.  This second extended continues up Angeles Crest all the way to Newcomb’s Ranch where you can take a break, get water and food. Then you simply return back down Angeles Crest back to the start along with the other routes. As you can see by the map below, besides the extra miles, this option adds almost 3000 feet of climbing. On the map, the red indicates the standard long route and the blue is the extended loop.  Although longer and more difficult than the other extended long, there is food and water available on this extended loop and the scenery is nicer.
