The DEAD OF WINTER Double is a 200 mile ride on popular established routes:  Lowland and Highland Doubles of the Los Angeles Wheelmen’s GRAND TOUR.  The Dead of Winter Double was held for the first time on November 30 and December 1, 2013, with a limited number of riders, just 75 each day. The Dead of Winter Double will be held December 7, 2019, and if there are enough volunteers, December 8, 2018.  HINT – pay it forward and volunteer so we can make the ride available to more riders.  Volunteers please email Ira at

The DEAD OF WINTER Double will follow the 2019 Grand Tour Lowland Route from Port Hueneme to Ojai with a section added to make the 200 mile total.  It will then follow the Highland Route past Lake Casitas to the coast before a return back to Port Hueneme.

Difficulty Rating:  Medium

It is intended to be a last chance, low-cost double (cost of $50).  Support will consist of water and Hammer Nutrition products only at all rest stops, with roving SAG for the duration.  We will provide “one-way” drop-bag support for one small drop-bag.   It will be delivered at mile 100 or thereabouts.   A 75- rider limit is necessary to keep the costs down, so a strict reservation policy will be observed.

The DEAD OF WINTER Double registration begins at 9:00 PM, August 1, 2019.  Registration will be accomplished via this website –  The first 75 registrants will be guaranteed a spot on the ride. A waiting list will be created using the additional registrants in the order received.  Based upon number of riders and volunteers (HINT – again) a second day may be added to the DOW and you will be notified via email about no later than 30 days prior to the event.  Registration will close on November 15th and there will be no day of event Registration.

As noted above, the route is a combination of the Lowland and Highland Grand Tour.   If you rode either course in recent years, you know where we’re going.   If not, no worries, we will post an updated route on the website a month prior to the event.   There are no Ride With GPS files for this event.

We have a room block at the Holiday Inn, Port Hueneme for the event…
